A man has shared how he had a "hell" like journey after he refused to move seats on a flight because a mum wanted to sit with her kids.

Having booked his seat in advance and paying out extra for doing so, he was first baffled as to why another passenger was in his seat.

Hoping he could get a little extra leg room with his pre-chosen place on the flight, the bloke then asked the wrongly seated flyer to move.

But the mum quickly retaliated - which caused for the trip to become one bumpy ride.

The bloke took to Reddit to share his ordeal where he questioned whether he was in the wrong for not moving.

He explained: "Recently I was berated by a woman on a plane who asked me to move so that her family could all sit in one row.

"I spend time, effort and money on getting specific seats when I travel.

"I can't afford business class but I can afford to pay a little extra for extra legroom."

But his "specific" seat was already occupied.

The keen traveller shared: "I was then asked to switch seats and the seat offered was in the middle of the plane, which is the worst kind,

"I politely refused and the mother persisted.

"She got loud and a flight attendant got involved and I said that it is within my rights not to move, especially since I had paid about a hundred bucks extra for this seat."

Along with the backing from the on flight staff, the bloke remained in his original seat.

However, that meant the mum was placed right next to him.

And, she certainly made her feelings known making for a "hell" like journey.

The bloke claimed: "She made my flight hell."

"She deliberately took up so much space that I couldn't get past to get up and refused to move, stating that is is within her rights not to do so.

"I understand that families want to sit together and when the kids are young they need to.

"However, it isn't my fault that they didn't plan this properly. I have moved seats on short haul flights on request before but on a 12 hour trip I refuse."

Despite the mum being up in arms, many Reddit users took the bloke's side and shared how they would have dealt with the situation.

Sounds like he had a terrible flight!

One person commented: "I am so sorry you dealt with this. I too am particular on my airline seats... people today have no grace for others, are so entitled, rude and downright mean."

Another user added: "You paid for your seat and are well within you rights to reuse to move the mother's lack of planning is not your problem."

While a third voiced: "If having her family together was so important to her, she could very, very easily have pre-booked seats. She choose not to, assuming that she could take advantage of someone else. That's not ok."

Someone else related: "I was asked to move twice on the same international flight. 1st time, some 7 foot guy needed my exit row seat for leg room, 2nd time same as you, some family wanted to sit together. I was the nice guy.

"The 3rd time I was approached I told the attendant my next move was to business class. They left me alone after that."

Meanwhile, a fifth user declared: "She knew exactly what she was doing and knew those seats were more expensive. But her cheap ass didn’t want to pay so she tried to scam, guilt, and force you to give her your seat.
